The mask in the classroom is one of the most discussed topics of the last few hours in school. What should you do when you return to class? According to the latest indications, the mask can be lowered sitting at the desk if there is a distance of one metre between one student and another. Be careful, though. Because the mask does not disappear completely from the classroom. It should be worn at dynamic times in the classroom and in common areas. “At school you go with the mask. But then we divide two moments: the dynamic moments where there are concrete risks for our students to be able to have closer contacts at a distance of less than a metre, and static moments, that is, when the student is stationary, I am thinking for example of a lesson, listens to the teacher, has a distance of at least a metre from the other students. At that static moment the mask that is compulsory at other times can naturally be lowered”. This measure “can be reviewed in the case of particularly sensitive epidemiological situations, but only the health authorities will be able to dispose of it and assess it correctly”. The surgical mask is the one that is given priority but nothing prohibits the use of tissue masks, personal, washable.
What will happen in October when schools reopen?
In primary school, to favour learning and relational development, the mask can be removed in static conditions with the respect of the distance of at least one metre and the absence of situations that foresee the possibility of aerosolisation (e.g. singing). In secondary school, also considering a transmissibility similar to that of adults, the mask can be removed in static conditions with the respect of the distance of at least one metre, the absence of situations that foresee the possibility of aerosolisation (e.g. singing) and in epidemiological situations of low viral circulation.
